Sensex ended at 26,272 up 125 points and Nifty ended at 7,831 up by 35 points.
Sensex ended up 11 points at 25,561 and the 50-share Nifty gained 16 points to end at 7,640.
The market breadth ended weak on the BSE with 2,086 shares declining and 893 shares advancing.
Benchmark share indices ended at record closing highs, amid a volatile trading session on Monday, with IT majors leading the gains.
The broader markets closed in tandem with their large counter parts- BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices lost 0.065 and 0.10%, each.
